ABOUT us
People-First HVAC Solutions, Rooted in Arizona
At Hicken Air, we believe comfort starts with trust. Since 2009, our family-owned business has delivered honest, high-quality heating, cooling, and air quality solutions to homes across Gilbert, Tucson, and surrounding areas. From our first service call to today, our focus has remained the same: treat customers like family and deliver reliable solutions, without pressure or gimmicks.

What Makes Us Different
FAMILY-OWNED & OPERATED
We’re not a franchise or call center—we’re a locally invested, family-run business with a name and reputation built on honesty & integrity.
COMMUNITY-ROOTED
From Gilbert to Tucson, we know Arizona homes and what it takes to keep them cool. We live here, work here, and serve the people in our neighborhoods.
CUSTOMER-FIRST APPROACH
We don’t upsell—we inform. Our technicians are paid hourly and rewarded based on service quality, not sales. That means you get what you actually need, nothing more.

Our Heritage
Founded by Ryan Hicken, Hicken Air began as a one-truck operation with a big vision: deliver honest HVAC service without high-pressure sales. Over a decade later, we’ve grown into a thriving team serving thousands of Arizona homeowners—with the same values we started with.
Whether we’re helping a neighbor beat the summer heat or designing a full HVAC system for a custom home, we bring the same attention to detail and commitment to service every time.
Meet the Team Behind the Truck
Ryan Hicken started Hicken Air in 2009 with one truck and one rule: tell homeowners the truth about their system, then do the work right. Today he leads a team of certified technicians and installers serving Gilbert, the East Valley, and the Tucson area, and he still sets the standard every crew member is measured against.
Ryan Hicken, Founder
Ryan came up through the field, not through sales. That shaped how the company pays and promotes people: technicians earn an hourly wage rather than commission, so the recommendation you get is the one the system actually needs. He is still the person crew members call when a job gets complicated.
Every Hicken Air technician is accountable to the same four things:
- Hourly pay with no commission on parts, systems, or add-ons
- Repair-first recommendations, with replacement raised only when repair no longer makes sense
- Background-checked and certified before they are sent to a home
- Ongoing certification, because equipment and refrigerants keep changing
That standard applies whether we are handling routine
AC repair and maintenance in July or a
heating repair call on a cold January night.
We are hiring technicians and installers who want to work this way. See our
open positions.
Certified Where It Counts
Certifications are the part of a hiring standard a homeowner can actually verify. Here is what our team holds.
- Every technician is NATE certified, the HVAC industry's largest independent technician certification
- Every technician holds EPA certification for safe refrigerant handling
- Select technicians hold OSHA 30 safety certification
- Select technicians hold the Electric League of Arizona Heat Pump Master Certificate
- Hicken Air is an ACCA-certified company, which applies a standard to the business, not just to individuals
What the Logos in Our Footer Actually Mean
Four logos sit at the bottom of every page on this site. None of them are decoration, so here is what each one represents.
Lennox Premier Dealer
Premier Dealer is Lennox's top dealer tier, and it requires maintained customer ratings and continuing technical training. It also means we can install the full Lennox line, including the Dave Lennox Signature Collection. It does not mean we only touch Lennox. We repair, maintain, and install all major brands, and we will tell you honestly when the brand already in your home is worth keeping.
SRP, APS, and the Electric League of Arizona
These are the utility and industry relationships behind rebate and incentive work. The Electric League of Arizona is where our technicians earn heat pump credentialing. SRP is where the active residential cooling rebate lives, and we file that paperwork on your behalf. APS is the other major utility serving our customers, and we will tell you exactly what is and is not available on your meter, because that changes and homeowners are often working from outdated information. See our
current rebate guidance.
